One of America’s premier soul and R&B groups, The Main Ingredient are best known for their massive hit, “Everybody Plays the Fool.” When former lead singer Donald McPherson died unexpectedly in 1971 from a bout with leukemia, the stunned group carried on with Cuba Gooding Sr. (father of the popular film star Cuba Gooding Jr..) taking over as lead vocalist.
