Obviously, Aaron Carter is too big a star to qualify as an “underground” phenomenon, but nonetheless he made it big while flying under all adult radar. Even the most rabid teenpop hater among grown-ups could have named a Britney, Backstreet or *NSYNC hit in ’99. But Aaron was a stealthy lad, and the vehicles he rode to stardom-the Pokemon soundtrack, Radio Disney, his own Nickelodeon show-were generally left unmonitored by most non-kids (and non-parents).
